Mi primera visita a un dentista mexicano terminó siendo una muy buena experiencia. Parte de la razón por la que es que primero hice mi tarea.

Aunque una visita a un dentista mexicano es muy parecido a una visita a un dentista estadounidense, hay aspectos importantes de la visita a considerar. ¿La oficina del dentista está a la altura? (Qué pedir / buscar.) ¿Aceptan su seguro dental americano o canadiense? (Lea más sobre eso).

En última instancia, si vas a una de las mejores clínicas dentales en Sonora que se encargará de todas sus necesidades, pero no duele estar preparado.

Una visita al dentista en México

Después de no haber estado en el dentista durante varios años, un pedazo de un molar con un viejo relleno cayó recientemente y tuve que programar una cita dental.

Para mí, viviendo en Arizona, optar por ir a un dentista en el otro lado de la frontera era un no-brainer – mejor tecnología, excelentes dentistas, oficinas a poca distancia y manera, manera menos costosa que en los EE.UU. Me llamó las oficinas De Dental Advanced (que se encuentra cerca de la frontera y tiene números de teléfono locales de Arizona) y habló con un programador de habla Inglés que me ayudó a establecer mi cita dental.

Cuando llegué a la consulta del dentista, llené un cuestionario estándar de salud y luego fui acompañado a un consultorio dental donde me esperaba el doctor Víctor Manuel Pérez Núñez (doctor Víctor).

Cuando había ido a una visita inicial a diferentes dentistas en los Estados Unidos, siempre comenzaban con una serie de radiografías dentales, que consistían en poner piezas de plástico en cada parte de la boca, contorsionar las mandíbulas mientras se exponían a La radiación de las radiografías. Y, sería muy costoso. Entonces me sentaría en la sala de espera durante un largo período de tiempo con una boca muy dolorida, esperando a que se desarrollaran las radiografías, antes de ver al dentista.

No es así con mi dentista mexicano. Primero comprobó el molar roto, que terminó siendo un diente de sabiduría. Su ayudante movió un tubo cerca de mi mejilla, movió un objeto junto al diente, luego “clic”, y una radiografía de mi diente fue exhibida en un gran televisor de pantalla plana en la pared al final de la silla.

El Dr. Víctor luego siguió examinando mis dientes, encontrando otro lugar donde puede haber habido un problema. Otro clic y mis dientes volvieron a mostrarse, sin problemas.

Así que necesitaba quitar el diente de sabiduría, pero el dentista me dijo que el diente estaba infectado por lo que no podía quitarlo hasta la semana siguiente. Él es capaz de prescribir la medicación, así que él me proporcionaría una ronda de antibióticos.

Me recomendó que tuviera una limpieza profunda, y estuve de acuerdo. Luego fui acompañada a una oficina de dentista adyacente, donde estaría flanqueada por dos hermosas y muy capaces mujeres – Dra. Patricia Ramírez Méndez y una higienista dental. Ambos hablan inglés, el higienista habla como un hablante nativo de inglés.

El dentista trajo los instrumentos para su trabajo, sacándolos de la manada donde habían sido esterilizados. Después de hacer una limpieza profunda de mis dientes, Dra. Ramírez me pulió los dientes y ya había terminado.

En la recepción, pagué mi factura (puedes pagar en dólares, pesos o con una tarjeta de débito / crédito), hizo mi cita para la semana siguiente y me dieron una copia de la receta y una semana de amoxicilina.

El proyecto de ley para el examen, la medicina y la limpieza era alrededor de un tercio de lo que habría pagado un dentista en los Estados Unidos. Y, me reembolsaría la mitad de esa cantidad por mi seguro dental estadounidense.

En resumen, quedé muy complacido por el profesionalismo, eficiencia y efectividad de la oficina dental mexicana. Me vieron rápidamente en el momento de mi cita, todos los servicios se proporcionaron de una manera cortés y profesional, y siempre había alguien cerca que hablaba inglés fluido.

My first visit to a Mexican dentist ended up being a very good experience. Part of the reason why is that I first did my homework.

Although a visit to a Mexican dentist is very much like a visit to an American dentist, there are important aspects of the visit to consider. Is the dentist office up to standard? (what to ask / look for.) Do they accept your American or Canadian dental insurance? (read more about that.)

Ultimately if you go to one of the better dental clinics in Sonora they will take care of all of your needs, but it does not hurt to be prepared.

A Visit to the Dentist in Mexico

After not having been to the dentist for several years, a piece of a molar with an old filling fell out recently and I had to schedule a dental appointment.

For me, living in Arizona, opting to go to a dentist on the other side of the border was a no-brainer – better technology, excellent dentists, offices within walking distance and way, way less expensive than in the U.S. I called the offices of Dental Advanced (which is located near the border and has local Arizona phone numbers) and spoke with an English-speaking scheduler who helped me set up my dental appointment.

When I arrived at the dentist’s office, I filled out a standard health questionnaire and was then escorted into a dental office where Dr. Víctor Manuel Pérez Núñez (Dr. Victor) was waiting for me.

When I had gone for an initial visit at different dentists in the United States, they would always start with a series of dental x-rays, which consisted of putting pieces of plastic in every part of your mouth, contorting your jaws while being exposed to the radiation of the radiographs. And, would be very costly. I would then sit in the waiting room for an extended period of time with a very sore mouth, waiting for the x-rays to be developed, before seeing the dentist.

Not so with my Mexican dentist. He first checked the broken molar, which ended up being a wisdom tooth. His assistant moved a tube near my cheek, moved an object next to the tooth, then “click,” and an x-ray of my tooth was displayed on a large flat-screen TV on the wall at the end of the chair.

Dr. Victor then continued to examine my teeth, finding one other place where there may have been an issue. Another click and my teeth were again displayed, with no problems.

So I needed to have the wisdom tooth removed, but the dentist told me that the tooth was infected so he could not remove it until the following week. He is able to prescribe medication, so he would provide me with a round of antibiotics.

He recommended that I have a deep cleaning, and I agreed. I was then escorted to an adjoining dentist’s office, where I would be flanked by two beautiful and very capable women – Dra. Patricia Ramírez Méndez and a dental hygienist. Both speak English, the hygienist speaks it like a native English speaker.

The dentist brought in the instruments for her work, removing them from the pack where they had been sterilized. After doing a deep cleaning of my teeth, Dra. Ramirez polished my teeth and I was done.

At the front desk, I paid my bill (you can pay in dollars, pesos or with a debit/credit card), made my appointment for the following week and was given a copy of the prescription and a week’s worth of amoxicillin.

The bill for the exam, medicine and cleaning was about one-third of what I would have paid a dentist in the United States. And, I would be reimbursed half of that amount by my American dental insurance.

In summary, I was very pleased by the professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness of the Mexican dental office. I was seen promptly at the time of my appointment, all services were provided in a courteous and professional manner, and there was always someone nearby who spoke fluent English.
