Magdalena is both a modern town and a historic place. Its favorite son, Luis Donaldo Colosio, was assassinated while campaigning for president. He is remembered with a large statue in the plaza and a marvelous modern-style mausoleum in the city cemetery.
And the town’s namesake, Jesuit Priest Eusebio Francisco Kino, played a significant role in shaping the economy and culture of the region, and his influence can still be seen and felt today.
